Wellbeing

Knowing that the children feel like they are going home when they go to school is a great happiness for the whole educational team. It is such a satisfaction when, every morning, we witness the children's joy at meeting each other, greeting their teachers with a respectful "A Di Da Phat", being curious to wonder and learn about the world, and playing joyfully together.

Our understanding and commitment offer children a place where they feel happy to learn together with their peers and teachers. With our educational team, we are constantly striving to create an environment where children feel safe to express themselves, to question the world, to make mistakes and learn from them, to be brave enough to explore the unknown and to seek support when they need it.

Wellbeing is intrinsic to Buddhist philosophy and practice. Wellbeing at HNBC is about helping students, especially when they are experiencing challenging emotions, through our daily awareness program and practices, to return to their true home, their inner peace.

A beautiful story

The song below, Here is the Rose was written in 2020 by Tamara Kuldin, our Head of Wellbeing, during our long weeks of confinement in the context of the Covid epidemic. After creating the melody with Steven, Tamara asked three of our students (Hannah, Kathy and Emmerson) to record their singing of Here is the Rose on Zoom.

The students' voices became like an anchor in which everyone could find comfort during this difficult time. They warmed the hearts of those (students and teachers) who felt down and lonely learning and teaching from home for so long. The tradition at Hoa Nghiem Buddhist College is that singing is a practice that helps us to connect to our inner peace.
